Sleep apnoea

Peaceful, quite and comfortable sleep

Enjoy a refreshing night's sleep and relief from snoring and mild sleep apnoea with a safe and effective dental device. If you or a member of your household suffers from snoring or mild sleep apnoea, please speak with us about our new, highly successful dental device called the SomnoMed MAS™.

MAS stands for 'mandible advancement splint' and it fits over your top and bottom teeth like a sports mouthguard. It works by positioning your bottom jaw slightly forward of its usual position, which prevents the walls of your airway from vibrating against each other. It is this vibration that causes the snoring noise. In the case of sleep apnoea, the sides of the airway can stay together for periods of time affecting normal breathing and sleeping.

Your Medland dentist will carefully examine your resting jaw position to determine your suitability for the MAS. We will then take measurements, prepare the device and provide you with detailed instructions on its use.

The MAS is an Australian product designed to suit our lifestyle and living conditions. We are confident you will be happy with the effectiveness of this device and know it will give you and the members of your household peace of mind and a quiet, restful sleep.

Will the MAS work if I have a bridge or denture?

Patients with a bridge or denture can successfully use a MAS. We will make additional adjustments to ensure it works perfectly with your existing devices. Patients with partial dentures may be successfully fitted with a MAS if there are enough teeth to anchor the device.

How long does it last?

With regular cleaning as demonstrated by your dentist, your MAS device will last for many years, most likely for your whole lifetime.

Does the MAS need to be serviced?

During your biannual dental check-up, your Medland hygienist will check the position of your MAS, clean it thoroughly and tighten the moveable parts to ensure its thorough working order.
